Based on the most recent advisory by NEA Singapore to improve air quality for commercial premises amidst COVID-19, all indoor air-conditioned spaces, including F&B and Retail, are highly encouraged to ensure adequate ventilation in all occupied spaces.

 

Where possible, stores are encouraged to have window mounted fan systems or to open doors and windows to clear out stale air and refresh air quality.

Of course, for a lot of retail and F&B spaces, this is not possible as the stores are fully air-conditioned with few windows that can be opened.

This is why NEA also proposed that as an interim measure, portable air cleaners with high efficiency air filters (eg. HEPA) may be considered as well.

Longer term, if a window mounted fan system cannot be installed, an alternative to consider can be wall or ceiling mounted air sanitization systems which purge indoor air, while recirculating fresh air by purifying harmful air particles such as germs and bacteria.

These systems should incorporate high efficiency filters and for additional safety, air cleaning techniques such as ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) may be considered.

Our UVC air sanitization technology uses UV-C, the band of ultra-violet light most efficient at sanitizing viruses and bacteria, and it is one of the main applications of UVGI.

Previously, this technology was mainly used in places like hospitals, surgery rooms and space stations, places with a strict requirement for air cleanliness in a short amount of time.

They were also prohibitively expensive, with systems that started from the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Today, with the mass adoption of UVC sanitization technologies, it is now possible to incoporate this into retail grade air sanitization systems, such as our wall-mounted PureAire W100 or C100 at a much more affordable price point.

Our air sanitization systems consist of 2 layers of protection. The 1st layer is a H-13 medical grade HEPA filter, similar to the ones used in hospitals.

The 2nd layer is our proprietary UVC germicidal technology, certified by TUV SUD to cleanse 99.99% of germs and bacteria.

Finally, US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released an advisory in 2019 for COVID ventilation protection measures for buildings and interiors.

Inside, one of the recommendations call for “Use portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) fan/filtration systems to enhance air cleaning (especially in higher risk areas such as a nurse’s office or areas frequently inhabited by people with a higher likelihood of having COVID-19 and/or an increased risk of getting COVID-19)”

Also mentioned in the recommendations are the use of UV sanitization, namely “Use ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplemental treatment to inactivate SARS-CoV-2 when options for increasing room ventilation and filtration are limited. “

This means that not only are HEPA sanitization and filtration systems internationally recognised solutions for protecting against COVID, an added protective layer of UV sanitization and ensure even better security and peace of mind for the whole family.
